COMPANY PROFILE
Star Wheels was established in 1999 in Durban by Bolton Misra with sets of seven mechanical truck tractors and trailers as predominantly a transporter of break bulk and containerised cargo. The organisation has since grown to a fleet of in excess of 100 truck tractors and over 230 trailers. Initially only servicing the Durban to Johannesburg route, the organisation now transports cargo, ranging from containers to grain and coal, to all parts of South Africa. With its head office is in Sea Cow Lake in Durban, the organisation employs more than 150 staff. It is also a certified bonded carrier with a R1 million road bond.
In 2004, the organisation established a fully fledged operation in Bethal as coal transporter for Eskom, with a fleet of 20 truck tractors and specialised trailers, and has been servicing this industry for over 10 years now.
As part of its further growth and expansion strategy, the organisation has recently established a branch with container handling facilities in Culemborg in Cape Town, across the N1 from the port, occupying 11,000 square meters of ground and 1,200 square metres of warehouse space. The site is equipped with a 45 ton reach stacker and two 3-ton forklifts for clients requiring unpacking of containers on site. The current fleet in Cape Town consists of some 15 truck tractors and 15 trailers and is growing with increased demand. The trailer fleet consists of 6m and 12m flat decks, super links and 12m trailers with on board generator sets for reefer long and short haul cartage and 4 × 6m tri -axle tipper trailers have a carrying capacity of 27.5tons including the container weight.
